STOCKS, OPTIONS, DAY TRADING
Sarah Potter is an experienced options trader and educator. She began trading part-time as a way to make more money to buy the extras she wanted. Her desire to trade for a living grew as she began loving the challenges of the markets and wanted to break free from the nine-to-five work week. As a self-taught trader, she understands what it is like and what is required to move from part-time to full-time trading.
Sarah combines the experience she has acquired as a self-directed trader with her Master of Education degree to teach and empower others. Her work has been featured on many media outlets, including CNBC, BNN, Yahoo Finance, Forbes, and more. She is the author of the internationally published book, How You Can Trade Like A Pro: Breaking into Stocks, Options, Futures and ETFs.
What Motivates Me
I am driven to help new traders find their first steps to trading and help established traders improve their skills and consistency. As someone who started without any knowledge of trading, I understand how frustrating it can feel when you are first starting. It’s hard to know if you are on the right path. What really motivates me, is you, your story, and your trading journey, so my job is to motivate you too. Words I live by are, “The only difference between a dream and a goal is a timeline.”
What I Like to Trade
I primarily trade equity options as swing trades and will place some intraday futures trades when the market is moving. I try to place trades with an approach that allows me to focus on the markets for a specific time period during the day, then move on and enjoy other activities without being tied to my computer. I prefer to watch stocks, get to know their patterns, their moves, and how they are affected by news events. Once I have watched a market and feel I really know the stock, then I will add it to my watch list.
Outside of Trading
I love to be outdoors and active! Depending on the season, I enjoy a variety of outdoor sports. I love to road bike, mountain bike, and hike. I try my best to be a runner (slow and steady) and in the winter months love to snowshoe and ski. Yes, I have been known to exit trades from the chairlift on the way up the mountain. As a mom with a young family, my long-distance triathlon days are on hold for now, but I aspire to get some more half iron-mans and marathons under my belt again soon.
